What Do I Need to Obtain My Official Degree from MIU City University Miami?

Below, we explain step by step the process to obtain your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from MIU City University Miami. Here you will find the requirements and the approximate timelines for your degree issuance.

The process consists of 5 phases:

1. Degree Request

You must initiate the process after completing your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree through the Virtual Campus – Canvas.

In the Registrar tab, select “Request Degree Issuance.”

Your request will be set to Pending Validation.

2. Authorization Period

Within approximately 15 business days, your request will be updated to Authorized.

From that moment, you can proceed with the payment of the corresponding fees.

3. Payment of Fees

  1. Once your request is authorized, you will receive an email with available options to pay the degree fees.
  2. The email will include different payment methods, including a direct link to the banking platform to complete the payment securely.
  3. Ensure that your personal information is up to date, as all communications will be sent to the registered email and address.
  4. Follow the instructions on the payment platform until you receive payment confirmation.
  5. To avoid issues, do not close or go back during the process until successful payment is confirmed.
  6. Once the process is completed, the request status will be updated to Paid.
  7. If you pay via bank transfer or PayPal, you must send the proof of payment to registrar@miuniversity.edu.

Important: If the payment proof is not received by the Registrar’s office, your degree will not be processed.

4. Issuance of Official Degree (Digital Format)

Within a few weeks after payment confirmation, you will receive an email with a link to download your Official Digital Degree. This document carries the same official value as the original degree.

5. Issuance of Official Degree (Physical Format)

The approximate timeline to receive the physical degree is:

  • 4 months for degrees without an Apostille

  • 8 months for degrees with an Apostille

All official degrees are issued and shipped from MIU City University Miami via UPS courier service.

The shipment will be sent to the address registered by the student, or if requested, to the destination indicated at the time of the degree request.

Once your diploma is ready to ship, you will receive an email with the UPS tracking number to monitor your shipment.

Degree Recognition Process with the MEN

1. Access the Ministry of Education website and create an account
To begin the process, you must register in the degree recognition system of the Ministry of National Education of Colombia. Once in the Higher Education Recognition section, click on “Start the process.”

2. Complete the form and attach the required documentation
The following documents must be submitted electronically along with your application:

  • Completed application form as required by the Ministry of National Education of Colombia.

  • Copy of the Colombian identification document.

  • Copy of the diploma for the degree you are seeking to have recognized, apostilled in the country of origin (Important: the original diploma is required; supplementary or provisional certificates are not accepted).

  • Academic transcript of the program corresponding to the degree to be recognized, properly legalized or apostilled in the country of origin.

  • The scans of both the diploma and the transcript must clearly show the complete apostille seal. Otherwise, the MEN may reject the application.

3. Pay the application fee
Once all documents are completed, you must pay the recognition application fee through the Ministry’s platform. The fee may vary each year; check the current cost on the Ministry’s website.

4. Evaluation and tracking of the application
After submitting the form and documentation, the application will be registered, and you will receive a tracking number to monitor the status of your request through the Ministry’s website.

You can track the application online or via the registered email address.
The Ministry of National Education of Colombia will review the application, and if any additional documents are required, you will be asked to provide them to continue the process. Notifications are usually sent to the email address registered in the application.

Please pay close attention to your email and respond to any requests from the MEN within the deadlines indicated in their communications. Failure to do so may result in the application being archived.
