MIU, UNIR and the Spain-US Chamber of Commerce Bring International Executives Into the Heart of Miami’s Business Community
The “Miami International Week,” organized by MIU City University Miami and the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR), in collaboration with the Spain-US Chamber of Commerce, has concluded after four intensive days of academic and business immersion that allowed international students to experience from the inside some of the most dynamic sectors of the U.S. economy.
The initiative, held from October 20 to 23, aimed to bring students with executive and entrepreneurial profiles closer to Miami’s innovation ecosystem, a city that has become a meeting point between North America, Latin America and Europe. Through institutional visits, meetings with top-level professionals, hands-on workshops and networking activities, participants discovered how successful business projects are built in one of the most competitive markets in the world.
The first day focused on entrepreneurship and innovation in the United States, with activities held at The LAB Miami, one of the city’s leading innovation hubs. There, students learned firsthand the keys to turning an idea into a viable business model, as well as the opportunities offered by startup and venture capital ecosystems.
One of the highlights of the program took place on the second day, held at the global headquarters of Telemundo – NBC Universal. Attendees enjoyed an exclusive experience that allowed them to see the inner workings of one of the largest Spanish-language media groups in the United States. In addition to touring its facilities and production studios, they explored the economic, social and cultural impact of the Hispanic market, one of the fastest-growing and most influential segments in the country.
The third day was devoted to the event “Fintech & Financial Strategy: Navigating the Future of Finance,” held at Banco Sabadell Miami with the participation of VISA representatives. During the sessions, students analyzed the transformations redefining the global financial sector, from digital banking and new payment systems to the opportunities offered by technological innovation applied to finance.

Three Allied Institutions in Miami
Daniel Burgos, president of MIU City University Miami, highlighted the transformative value of the initiative: “The Miami International Week represents exactly the kind of international experience that today’s and tomorrow’s leaders need. It is not just about learning in the classroom, but about understanding how the companies, institutions and sectors that are defining the global economy work.”
For his part, Mario Fernández Carenas, director of the Knowledge Center at the Spain-US Chamber of Commerce, stressed the importance of creating spaces that connect universities and businesses: “Bringing students closer to Miami’s business community has allowed them to better understand the dynamics of an international market and to develop a global vision that is essential for facing today’s professional challenges.”
Along the same lines, Asunción Gálvez Caja, vice dean of International Academic Development at UNIR’s School of Economics and Business, said that this experience has been “transcendental” for the students of the UNIR and MIU MBA programs. “The diversity of companies and organizations we visited were very well received. Students learned firsthand how innovation and AI have become key drivers in the creation of businesses,” she said.
The agenda included visits to The Dock and meetings with professionals from LLYC and Havas, which allowed participants to learn firsthand about some of the dynamics and challenges of the business and communications ecosystem.
The “Miami International Week” concluded this Friday at the MIU City University Miami campus with a session devoted to investor communications and the final presentation of business projects, capping off a week of learning, innovation and networking that strengthened the collaboration between UNIR, MIU and the Spain-US Chamber of Commerce, and brought international university talent closer to the opportunities of one of the most dynamic economic hubs in the Americas.
