Design an enterprise architecture with the TOGAF methodology
What is the TOGAF methodology?
The Open Group Architecture Framework or TOGAF is a framework for planning, designing and implementing an organization’s enterprise architecture. And what do we mean when we talk about enterprise architecture? The way to optimize within an enterprise all the elements or architecture that make up the business strategy.
The enterprise architecture allows us to have a global vision of the company that includes:
- Processes
- Organizational structure
- Information technology
- Strategic objectives
How did the TOGAF method come about?
It was developed in 1995 by the members of The Open Group Architecture Forum. It takes as a reference the TAFIM (Technical Architecture Framework for Information Management) methodology created by the United States Department of Defense in the 1990s.
What elements should I take into account when applying the TOGAF methodology?
- Business architecture covers everything related to business strategy, the structure and processes of a company, and governance.
- Data architecture refers to the way of structuring the physical and logical data of an organization, as well as the resources for managing and maintaining such data.
- Application architecture refers to creating a schema for the application systems that need to be implemented, how these systems interact and how they relate to the company’s business processes.
- Technological architecture includes the structure of the hardware, software and networks necessary to support the implementation of the company’s applications.
What are the benefits of the TOGAF method?
- It allows optimizing systems and improving adaptation to change.
- Cost reduction by simplifying development, maintenance and support tasks.
- Reduce risks by making it easier to implement new systems and methodologies.
- Methodology adaptable to any type of company and industry.
