Miami, Florida, February 28, 2025.

MIU City University Miami celebrated this Friday the 2025 Commencement among the excitement, joy and satisfaction of 294 students who have successfully crowned the end of their studies.

The Wolfson Auditorium of Miami Dade College was the stage chosen to celebrate a ceremony marked by the solemnity of the academic act and the prominence of the recent graduates, which turned into jubilation at the conclusion of the event with the traditional tossing of the caps in the air.

During the ceremony, the graduates and masters received a diploma accrediting their degree, the fruit of their efforts during the training period. The graduates in Master of Science in International; Master of Science in Educational Leadership, Management and Emerging
Technologies Business; Master of Science in International Business Administration; and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration have obtained their degrees under the advanced online or hybrid (face to face-virtual) modality of MIU, a benchmark in learning and
research
at international level.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the way in which the graduates participated, divided between on site and online. Up to 119 students were in person at the event, while 175 participated via streaming.

Solemn act

4PM was the appointed time for the start of the solemn ceremony, with the entrance of the procession of academic authorities and faculty, accompanied by the chords of the famous march ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ by Edward Elgar. The parade was led by Daniel Burgos, president of MIU, along with Rubén González, academic director of Global PROEDUCA; Marisol Salcedo, associate dean; Óscar Montero, academic director of PROEDUCA; Eliette Barrios, MIU senior instructor; and Luisa Zozaya, coordinator of Academic Innovation at Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR).

After the interpretation of the national anthem by the singer Sencha Kava, the official program began with the words of welcome and recognition to the graduates by Daniel Burgos.

The MIU president highlighted the importance of the concept of ‘change’ during his speech. “Change is complex and is not limited to two sides. It means improvement, progress, evolution; higher, stronger, further,” he said.

Burgos emphasized that transformation must start with self-will, often by changing a significant habit, and encouraged the new graduates to do their best as agents of change. “For something to change it must start from oneself,” he stressed. Finally, he urged them to put into practice the knowledge acquired in MIU’s classrooms and become drivers of transformation in a society in need of talent and innovation.

Representative voices

The student’s voice was also doubly echoed. Thus, in the auditorium there was a succession of speeches by representatives of undergraduate and graduate students, accompanied by a Valedectorian, respectively. Claudia Azevedo Leite do Amaral, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, expressed her gratitude to the professors and campus managers. “To achieve your dream, it is essential to believe, take the next step, plan your path, make the best decisions and always give the best of yourself,” she emphasized.

In his turn, Ecuadorian student Carlos Alberto Espinoza, Master of Science in International Business Administration, highlighted the perseverance and determination of the graduates in his speech in Spanish, a nod to the Hispanic community with which MIU has a special bond, as it has many Latin American students. “As the Chinese philosopher Lao-Tse famously said, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,’” he quoted and then encouraged his classmates to move forward with courage into a future full of challenges.

High point

The most awaited moment for the graduates was receiving their diplomas, a symbol of the effort and dedication invested, which increases the chances of opening doors to professional and employability opportunities. This part of the event began with the students going online, who saw their names projected on a screen and were able to download their diplomas by following the instructions received by e-mail.

Next, the students present at the venue were called to the stage in groups of six. Dressed in caps and gowns, they received their diplomas from the members of the presidential table, while they searched the audience for the complicit glances of their families to share this moment of joy.

Confirmation and caps in the air

In the final part of the ceremony, the official declaration of the conferral of degrees was read. “I hereby confer upon you the degree for which you have been recommended, with all the corresponding honors, rights and privileges,” were the words pronounced by the academic Marisol Salcedo, before the new graduates executed the liturgical gesture of moving the tassel of the biretta from right to left, a sign of moving to a higher level of learning.

Once the ceremony was over, the academic retinue paraded again to leave the premises and let the explosion of joy of the students overflow outside the protocol, although essential in any act of these characteristics. The emblematic image of the caps in the air thrown by the new graduates put the finishing touch to a day full of emotions that leaves a mark in the memory of all its protagonists.
