MIU City University Miami Is Awarded the Key to Miami-Dade County

The university from the PROEDUCA group received the prestigious award at Miami-Dade Beacon Council’s Annual Key Ceremony for its contributions to the advancement of knowledge and for promoting economic development in the Florida county.

MIU City University Miami has been awarded the prestigious Key to Miami-Dade County in recognition of its dedication to academic and economic development in the Florida county. The award coincides with the renewal of the scholarship program the university offers in conjunction with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), which helps high-achieving students pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava presented MIU with the award on October 11 during Miami-Dade Beacon Council’s Annual Key Ceremony at the Frost Museum of Science in Miami. Rafael García-Parajua, Executive Director, and Alfredo Villalobos, Director of Professional Services, accepted the award on behalf of MIU.

The Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s official economic development partner, organizes this event to honor companies that establish or grow their businesses and create jobs in the county, which currently has a population of 2.7 million.

Other companies from a variety of industries and services were also recognized for placing their trust in Miami-Dade county and contributing to its economic growth.

According to the Beacon Council, as many as 44 companies have demonstrated their commitment to this global business hub between 2022 and 2023, bringing more than 5,500 new direct jobs and close to $400 million in new capital investments.

County commissioners, city officials, and other authorities will also participate in the event.

With its Annual Key Ceremony, the Beacon Council provides not only a platform to acknowledge companies dedicated to the county but also a forum to reflect on the past year’s work and strategize for the community’s continued success.

Accreditation and scholarships

On June 30, 2024, MIU was granted accreditation by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). This mark of academic and institutional quality reflects a rigorous vetting and evaluation process, following DEAC’s strict standards for curriculum, assessment, student support, faculty qualifications, and administrative consistency, among others.

The accreditation coincides with the start of the scholarship application period for programs beginning in January 2024. This includes the prestigious scholarships offered in collaboration with OAS for all MIU’s online and hybrid (on-campus) academic programs.
