The student is continually stimulated by teachers to work individually and in groups, to understand the value of comparison and negotiation, and to develop projects, managing and planning the different phases. The lessons are aimed at achieving the objectives set by the course study plan, as well as at specific transversal skills, such as problem-solving, result orientation, time management, sense of responsibility, and flexibility.

Getting a degree Online

What is an Online Degree?

What courses can be taken online at MIU?

All of MIU City University Miami’s undergraduate and graduate courses may be taken online.

What does it mean to take a university degree “online”?

An “online” degree means that instead of attending classes in person, you will be able to complete your degree online without having to visit the campus, giving you the flexibility to create your own schedule and study while you work. You will still participate and interact with other students, only instead of attending a class in person, it will be through weekly online assignments and discussion forums.

How do the online classes work?

Online classes are quite similar to traditional classroom-based courses. You’ll receive a syllabus at the beginning of the term so you’ll know what to expect. All of your classes—lectures, tutorials, and group work with other students—as well as your course materials will be available through the virtual learning environment.

What are the pros of an online degree?

Online courses can help you achieve your goals by offering accessible education that fits into your schedule. In addition, the online degrees offered in Spanish give Spanish speakers outside the United States the opportunity to earn a U.S. degree without moving to the U.S. or needing a student visa.

Studying online will allow you to achieve autonomy in your studies, with the availability of a tutor as a guide.

Studying through the Cavas platform, the most used by US universities, will give you the confidence to work with digital tools in the future.

You’ll make international contacts both online and on-campus and gain first-hand experience working with an international team.

Is an online degree respected as much as a traditional degree?

The online degrees at MIU are the same high-quality programs that are offered on campus, with the same curriculum and academic rigor, giving you the flexibility to create your own schedule and study while you work.

Will my degree certificate and academic transcript say that I studied online?

No, your degree certificate and academic transcript will not specify that you studied online, it will simply say the name of the degree you completed and the qualification you received.

How much contact will I have with my teacher in an online course?

You may contact your teacher as you need, using the web-based conferencing system or e-mail. In addition, each student will be assigned a personal tutor who provides a personalized orientation and helps you organize and prioritize your study and practical activities. The tutor will motivate you to achieve your objectives within the established time frame, help you identify any problems, and plan specific activities in collaboration with the teachers.

What kind of assignments are typical for an online course?

Assignments vary throughout the programs. Students are usually required to post in the group discussion each week and may need to complete individual or group projects and give presentations.

How long

How long does an online degree take? Can I do it faster than a traditional degree?

Online courses have the same credit load as on-campus courses, so they take the same amount of time to complete. There is more flexibility, however, in how you organize your week and when you study.

Can I work full time and still do my degree online?

Yes! These degrees are designed so that you can study and work at the same time. In fact, 95% of all our online students work and study at the same time.

How do I complete exams for online courses?

For each course, the student must pass assessments and tests at different stages of their studies: two multiple-choice tests in the middle and at the end of the course, an assignment, and a final exam consisting of an open question that requires the application of acquired knowledge. 90 minutes are scheduled for the intermediate and final tests and 120 minutes for the open question exam. The average results achieved in the different tests will determine the final grade of the course.

Does it matter where I am? What if I live in a different time zone?

There will be less hanging out at parties, but the same opportunities to network and create professional connections for the future. You will need to be organized and self-motivated in the management of your time, which brings its own advantages for your professional future.

Are online degrees interactive?

In addition to the presentations and videos used in the classes, students will be asked to participate in the virtual classroom, in discussions, group projects, web-based forums, and chats. In asynchronous classes these will be held over several days rather than in real time.

How many students are in the online classes?

The number of students in an online class varies per course and intake.

What support will I have as an online student?
